Triple-Scented Candles - a marketing gimmick?

Triple-Scented Candles - a marketing gimmick?

You would have seen candles being advertised as "triple-scented" but it's unclear what this really means. If you search "what does triple-scented candle mean" on Google, you'll get a variety of answers. Let's unpack them now...

Option 1: Triple-scented means just that - three times as much fragrance in your candle. This is a concern. Candle-making wax can only hold a certain amount of fragrance - usually 8%-10% of the total wax weight. anything over this can overload the wick and make the candle burn inefficiently; or worse - cause the candle itself to catch fire!!

Option 2: Triple scented means triple the amount of fragrance as compared to candles of old. Years ago, candles were predominantly made from paraffin wax. Paraffin wax only required 3% of total wax weight in fragrance. So, when you convert that to the 8%-10% fragrance used in soy wax candles - then yes, technically this could be called "triple-scented".

Option 3: Triple scented means three fragrance profiles. Some candle are fragranced with a single essential oil (such as lavender essential oil, or sweet orange essential). However, most commercially available candles are fragranced with blended fragrance oil - usually having top notes, mid notes and base notes. Hence, triple-scented.

The most important thing is that candles are tested throughly before being brought to market. Little Blue Wren Candles are tested meticulously to ensure the amount of fragrance is at its best when the candle is both cold and hot, and is also safe.

So if you see a candle being advertised as "triple-scented" ask the vendor what this means - and make the best choice for you and your family.
